Happy Chinese New Year!

Year of the MonkeyIt’s that time of the year again. It’s the Chinese New Year. I know not everyone celebrates this but to everyone who does, Happy Chinese New Year!

I found this year to be rather festive. My classmates are getting haircuts and buying new clothes. Even I got some new clothes. Hence, I am feeling rather festive.

But Chinese New Year is also a time where many people overeat because the cookies for the new year are delicious and so are the reunion dinners. It’s a time for family and friends and ang pau.

Anyhow, as much as it’s time for festivities, we should not forget about our studies. Personally, I am using the Chinese New Year as a break. So for now, I have put down all my books. I am letting myself relax so that I can start fresh when the Chinese New Year ends.

However, do what you feel is best.

Being in this course, I have realised that everyone’s studying style is different and it’s something you have to constantly be aware of. In the duration of my course, I have changed my studying style several times, looking for what works. Do know that what worked last year may not work this year. The reason could be because the subjects are different or that you may have different studying stamina this year.

Hence, constantly be aware of your studying style and see if it still suits you. If it doesn’t, don’t be afraid to change it or try new things. It could be something simple like playing classical music in the background while you study.

Anyhow, the study month is also coming. I usually sign up for that and use that to help with my studying. So if your subjects are covered for the study month, I say go and check it out.

What I wanted to say is, Happy Chinese New Year and good luck for your studies!

  1. Yes not all subjects are offered in the study month.
This year I am taking IS2136 Information Systems and Organizations, IS3167 Management and Innovation of e-Business, and MN3127 Organization Theory: An Interdisciplinary Approach.

None of my enrolled courses are participating in the study month.

I feel sad and disappointed that I am unable to take part in the study month. I feel this is unfair to me.

I am worried that my grades will be affected if I do not participate in the study month, because I do not have academic experts to talk to.

UOL should offer study month for all modules so that all students can participate and benefit from it.
