Recently, my college just had our first mock exam. I do agree that it’s early for exams. We aren’t even close to finishing the syllabus yet and most of us aren’t warmed up to the subjects yet. Although, I know this is the third month and we should probably be rather more warmed up to the subjects than we are.
Unfortunately for me, I have to admit that my knowledge of the subjects that I am taking this year is still shallow. However, my college wanted to test our understanding of the subject matter so far. So the exam questions only covered what we learnt so far. It was more like a pop quiz rather than a real exam.
To be honest, I was rather demotivated to take the mock exam. The reason for this is because I was completely aware that I did not know a lot of things. I knew that my understanding of the subject matter was not good. Some of my classmates also didn’t feel like going to the mock exam because we all felt the same way.
But in the end, I made myself go for the mock exam. Well, I knew that I did not understand a lot of things, but I also wanted to know my level of understanding regarding the subject matter.
In the end, it turns out that my understanding of the subject matter wasn’t too bad after all. But my application skills for the knowledge so far is not good. That is expected though because I haven’t really started doing exercises or doing the past years’ papers. I should really start doing that soon though.
Anyway, I hope that everyone’s studies is going fine. And if it’s not, just know you aren’t alone. Remember to give yourself breaks and also to work hard. Honestly, it’s a balance. A balance that I’m still learning.
By the way, it wouldn’t hurt to practise on some exercises currently because it’s already the third month into our studies. Anyway, good luck!
Carmen is studying the BSc Economics and Management at at HELP College of Arts and Technology in Malaysia.
Good advise :)
I just got registered into my law programme route B. Do you suggest it’s wise to take exams 2016 march-june? or wait until 2017 exams. I mean, 3-4 months is not a lot of time to prepare. I’m not sure yet. Still getting into study mode - 3 subjects.
Thanks.
I think it’s good you sat for the mock test Carmen! Since it doesn’t count towards the final mark, so much the better… it’s very useful to get warmed up, as you say :-)
There is still time enough to perfect our knowledge of the subjects!
Good luck to you too!
hmmm…I would say wait till 2017. Give yourself more time to learn the syllabus and revise.
